#1: 2006 dyna - screamin' eagle slip ons?

Posted on 2005-08-15 02:04:34 by Wally Hooker

Hi All, I'm a newbie here with a question. I just bought an '06 dyna
super glide custom. Can I legally put on the screamin eagle slash down
mufflers without having to add the Stage 1 air cleaner and remap?
(since the stage 1 air cleaner is considered "tampering" according to
the new '06 EPA regulations.

thanks,
Wally

Nope. And make sure you don't take the tags off your mattress.

Ozark >

thanks! That's what I was really asking, if i just put the mufflers
on, would it run too lean.

Unfortunately, my dealer says new EPA regulations have started for '06
models, and they can't install any curently available after market
exhaust because it is considered "tampering" and will mess with the O2
sensor and catalytic converters. I'm not sure if there will be any
products available for 2006 bikes, or I'm just stuck with the stock
exhaust.

thanks,
Wally

Don't think for a second that the aftermarket folks are going to settle
for being providers just for 05-older bikes. There definitely will be
products available for the 06-newer bikes, and there will always be
dealers willing to put them on. Aftermarket is too big of a cash cow to
be ignored. You may be stuck for now, but it won't be for long.

This is typically a federal violation of BOTH noxious gas and noise
emission regulations, YMMV

>Chances are if you change your pipes you will need to adjust your fuel
>mix to keep from burning too lean and while your at it you might as
>well put a better flowing air cleaner on too. You will see that most of
>this SE gear comes with warning that it is for off road use only. This
>is HD's way of covering there ass because they know that these changes
>violate the EPA regs.

I wonder how much the new HD closed loop system will compensate for a
stage 1?

>The good news is that in most states nobody checks and unless your
>dealer is a total asshole you will be covered by a warranty.
>Talk to your dealer's service department they will know if your state
>does a sniff test and if they will honor your warranty.

I have a fear that the factory is behind this to put the aftermarket
out of business, including the big ones (e.g., S&S). This EPA reg
stuff does nothing but benefit them and will put a lot pf pressure on
dealers to comply.

>For what it's worth, this group has a way of doing things and you will
>usually get a better reception if you read the FAQ and follow the
>customs here.

I have a Linux server at home (easier than you would think) that I can
tunnel into. From there I can remote desktop and get access to both
Windows machines as well as Linux machines to run, among other things, a
newsreader. All your company sees is SSH traffic, which is normal UNIX
stuff anyhow.

The other thing I have seen is that your ISP requires you to be on their
network to access newsgroups, which could explain having the same settings
at home and in the office, but only be able to access your subscription
from home. If this is the case you can subscribe to a newsgroup service
where you can get access independent of your ISP (i.e., work, home inet,
etc.).

Not sure which above applies to you, but hope it helps. YMMV.

Hoo, boy. Yer talking to someone who only 8 out of 10 times can
recognize a computer, let alone understand the more complex (for me)
issues. I can't even get my 2 PCs at home to talk to each other through
a hub! Seriously, though, I work in a police dispatch center and we
have PCs that are linked to the city's network. They have them heavily
protected from the outside world in order to 1: Maintain security of
information, and 2: Keep the system from being screwed up cuz it's our
Computer Aided Dispatch system. We keep track of all the cops with it.
I know very little about the set-up, but the IT guy for the police
department (friend of mine) said it's pretty bullet proof. (Famous last
words) Anyway, he said the newsgroups are blocked about the point where
they enter the building, figuratively speaking. I can get 'em through
Google, but not the binary groups...but I think that's a Google issue,
not our system.

Thanks for the info, though. Now I'm gonna go practice recognizing
computers. <g>

Ok, that's cool. Your response here and a few others clear things up.

Les,

Bar keep set Ol Less up with a double and I just got paid so pour a
round for the house.

I have a place in Reynolds County Missouri where I spend most of my
time. We have a pretty little valley and a quarter mile of Black River
frontage. I also have a place in Jefferson county which is close to St.
Louis. I bounce back and forth. There isn't much money in Reynolds
county so I go to St. Louis to make money (and check my email) then
back to the Ozarks to Live.

There is no phone available at my place in the sticks but a good broad
band in Jefferson County so it's not that unusual for me to go a week
or so without replying.

One of the best parts of this set up is the trip back and forth on
highway 21 on my Sporty.

Ride Safe,

Ozark

>>>>>You can't hardly go wrong with the roads over there. Much better than
>>>>>the
>>>>>crumbling bridges & shovels of loose asphalt patching potholes we have
>>>>>here
>>>>>in Oklahoma.

>>>> The roads up here in Manitoba must really be bad because I thought the
>>>> Ok roads were, well, OK.
>>>> Mind you, I only saw two main ones.
>>>
>>>Let me guess, 2 of these 3, I-40, I-35, US-412? Pick another road, any
>>>road...
>>>
>>>Someone has posted a link in the past to a supposed trip thru a nuclear
>>>wasteland. Welcome to Oklahoma in a few years if they don't get started
>>>replacing these bridges.
>>>
>>>Les
>>>
>> Nope, US-81going south and US 69/75 going back north.
>> They didn't seem too bad to me.
>> Lots of podunk towns but decent roads.
>
>Haven't been across 81 that I can recall. Parts of 69 & 75 are alright, but
>other parts are very rough.

Shows how "good" our roads are. :-)
I rode 75 and 69 all the way from Dallas to KC
