I think some of the problem you have with my statements may be the
result of thread drift. I was referring to streets with timed
signals, and timing fixed to the speed limit at that (though it would
be a fairly simple technical matter to put up signs announcing the
appropriate speed for centrally adjusted signal timing). It would
also be a good strategy for sensor-tripped signals in enough traffic
for someone ahead of you to be on the sensor.

If a light is very likely to stay red until the guy you're stuck
behind rolls over the buried sensor loop, that's a different
situation, and you might reasonably have a strong opinion about how
soon he accomplishes this feat. (One even sees sloth coasters heading
to stop *signs*, perhaps expecting them to turn green.)

Going with the flow vs. trying to bull your way through in thick
freeway or highway traffic is yet another situation that the thread
has branched off into.
