A lot of people drive in urban traffic with aggression and/or hurry
but without much sense of strategy. You know -- the guy who's so
much faster than you, he passes you several times. (To say nothing
of how much more gasoline he's using to make dust out of his brake
linings in the process.)

Unfortunately, multiple generations of modeling suggest that, in
moderate-to-heavy traffic, such drivers gum up the works for others
(quite aside from whether their individual gains are trivial or even
negative -- quite often at the time we part ways, I'm in the lead).
When you're talking about traffic rather than individual cars, you see
all sorts of hydraulic (and perhaps even more accurately, particle-
beam physics) phenomena.

It's a rare creature indeed who can carve his way through traffic with
minimal disturbance of others... and with a consistent net gain to
himself.
