Van Driver Arrested for Role in Minnesota School Bus Crash
4 students killed, 14 injured in SW Minnesota school bus crash

COTTONWOOD, Minn. -- Authorities have confirmed that the the driver of the
van that struck the school bus that killed 4 students on Tuesday is in the
country illegally.
Multiple sources tell FOX 9 that Morales is in the country illegally, but
immigration officials will only confirm they are investigating her status.
Officials at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement are checking to see
where she came from and how long she's been in Minnesota. FOX 9 has also
learned that the name she gave to police, Alainiss Morales, is an alias.
23-year-old Alainiss N. Morales was taken into custody on suspicion of
criminal vehicular operation. She was arrested by the State Patrol Thursday
afternoon and is being held in Lyon County Jail.
Alianiss Morales is scheduled to appear in Lyon County Court Friday at
11:30 a.m. in Marshall, MN.
The National Transportation Safety Board and Minnesota State Patrol are
investigating Tuesday's bus crash near Cottonwood, Minnesota that killed
four children and injured 14 people. More recently, details have emerged
about the van involved in the accident and its driver.

Right, people living in Oakland and Baltimore are going to head off to
Salinas and Stockton and other rural areas, sweating 10 hours a day in
hundred degree heat.

Without Latino farm workers, illegal or guest workers, you just can't run
those farms. They'll go out of business, and we'll have to (gasp!) import
our lettuce. Given the political clout of all those small agricultural
states (same number of Senators as New York or California), that'll never
happen.
Conservatives and nativists other unrealistic nitwits are horrified at any
legal acknowledgment of reality - oh no, giving amnesty for an infraction,
it'd be like we just let 12 million people off for getting a parking ticket,
can't even contemplate it.
So we'll just continue on in this little hypocritical limbo: millions of
hard working people pay human smugglers, sometimes risk death, to provide
that cheap labor, the agriculture and restaurant and hotel industries reap
huge benefits, and some construction firm makes millions building some
meaningless fence, to throw a bone to people too naive to accept the
reality.
Now I wouldn't weep if the agriculture industry lost their source of cheap
labor: we'd save a bundle in ag subsidies, the land could be used for
things more economically productive, and some dirt poor third world
countries will make some much needed cash for growing our food for us.
Maybe some of them in Central and South America. I have no doubt most of
these workers would rather stay home in their own countries and do these
jobs, and a steady stream of payroll money could make their communities so
much more livable.
Win-win. But never going to happen, because of the way the Senate is
structured.
