Hi Viatologists,
Yay! The Worldwide Highway Library (WHL) has completed its migration to her
new web-interface. You may now see all of our photographs, videos and
WHL-360 captures of the road. From 1999 to 2008, our contributors have
captured 2,184 photographs, 135 videos and 9 WHL-360 captures:
http://worldwide-hwys.calrog.com
You can see everything, ranging from country roads in Americas--be that
State Routes, Federal Routes or county tributary. See slides of the Mount
Blanc Tunnel and see the main street of Liechtenstein. Take in a video of
Mexico Federal Route 45 (en español) or watch a drive in snowy Calgary.
Stand on a Silicon Valley highway (virtually speaking) and turn around in
full 360 degree motion, when you decide to take "the spin"! That's how the
WHL encourages life w/o borders: you have the luxury of seeing three
continents from your computer's screen. Of course, that's no substitute
from the real deal... Travel and travel well!
Our new interface allows you to zoom from a 10,000+ metre glance,
figuratively speaking, into a regional view of the country whose highways
interest you.
After two months of sleep deprivation, researching new web scripts and
telling loved ones "I'm busy!" or "...In a minute!", I'm happy to say your
new interface will help guide you towards the place you want, in the media
format you want. For now, me needs mucho sleepy... :p
Cheers,
Carl Rogers

That's all??? You sure make a heck of a lot of noise for such a
trivial small amount of content. 2184 is only 273 photos a year, and
that is with your supposed world-wide network of contributors. I
would have thought that someone who posts multiple updates notices
each day would have 20,000 or 30,000 photos by now.
BTW, what percent of those photos are in focus...8%? Higher? Lower?

Not to mention that many of his photos are just of the shield or some
other obscure feature. His WHL does little to tell us much about any
of the highways he features.

I'd say lower.

2183 photos? Total? That might be like half my backlog. 237 per year is
mighty paltry. I've put up better than 1000, and it's just February.

SE Michigan meet photos from Dec. 2007 (posted after the first of the year, I
think) = 496
Atlanta meet trip day 1 = 312
Atlanta meet trip day 2 = 236
Atlanta meet trip day 3 = 104
That's roughly 1100 photos in just one month!
But this isn't a competition.... :-D

Well, most of 'em. I occasionally get a bad one due to low-lighting conditions,
but I'll acknowledge it and move on.
I guess the point is that most of us here announce our upd*tes and changes when
we have added something of significance or a significant quantity of new pics or
information. That's why Will Weaver was so hesitant to announce his new album of
his travels in the Tidewater area of Virginia and I wanted to assure him that
such announcements are welcome and encouraged. I wouldn't have known to check
out his Flikr album, which I enjoyed thoroughly, if he hadn't announced it here.

And waste a bullet? No they want to send him back to us for torture
purposes.
Take care,

True. They might have put him to work....
Would that be a torture that's against the Geneva Convention?

But there would still be Constitutional issues because of cruel and
unusual punishment.

What Carl lacks in quantity he makes up for in quality. :-)

Or he could be a "Manchurian Candidate" sent back here to single-handedly
infuriate all of USENET and bring the West to its knees. :-)

I looked at World Wide Videos and it isn't too hot though I did learn
some facts like I-80 goes all the way to New York city, The Big
Apple. I was hoping that the videos willl show most of the roads in a
speed up view though not too fast paced in order to see the scenery
and recongnize bulildings and signs.
For roadgeekness check out Google Street view with 12 cities added
sometime with in the last 2 weeks they claim; though I doubt it's that
much.
