End of the world: LLB comes to his senses [message #792684] Thu, 31 January 2008 02:20

Driving home from work on i-75 yesterday in SE Michigan. Traffic is
flowing nicely at 70-75 in a 70mph zone (3 lanes wide), except for
one knucklehead that I'm coming up on in the left lane. He's going
about 55, sometimes getting up to 60. He had at least 1/2 mile of
open road in front of him.

I followed for about 1/4 of a mile, and he wasn't budging, so I
flashed my brights. Incredibly, about 5 seconds later, the LLB put
his flasher on (that's 1 miracle) and moved to the right (2nd
miracle), at which time I passed.

There IS hope!

Did you check your rearview mirror to verify the LLB's return to the
left lane? That's too common to be a sign of the Apocalypse.

Try I-80 in Nebraska sometime if you want hair-raising. Posted 75,
right lane generally goes 65-70 depending on truck traffic. Pass
them, and *you* end up being the LLB even if doing 85-90. I drove
that once, and ended up being the LLB at 95 mph...at least by the
impression of the tailgater.

I checked for quite some time, and did NOT see him move back left.
I'm telling you, it's a miracle. Like a couple extra brain cells
kicked in to get him over the top.

RE: Reporting road rage for flashing of lights: That has actually
happened to me. The cop that came by to talk to me about it was as
unaware as the fool that reported me.

Did you show him the owners manual of your car that calls it
'flash-to-pass'? Better yet, show the cop in the owners manual for his
cruiser! :)

No, but I should have. As I recall once he left I read every page of
my drivers manual, SURE that it was in there and prepared to take it
to the station to conclude the disagreement. Me being in MA, it
wasn't in our handbook, or our laws! On the bright side, it is in the
more-often-but-not-always-logical handbook of my current state.

Then he's not an "official" LLB. I get those ones that pass a vehicle, stay
in the left lane, but they're simply off daydreaming or busy yakking with
someone else and they just basically "forget" they're in the passing lane.
