If our govt really wanted to slow down the deadly speed criminals on our
highways they'd put up billboards saying something like that and say the
same thing in public service ads on TV. I realize americans are violent
murderous psychopaths but even they haven't sunk to the level that they
accept the murder of children.

Do you have a cite for your statistic? Can you say, "false advertising?"

"They?" Are you telling us you are a fer-un-er presuming to tell us

What murder of what children? Proove it or STFU.

Yes, but never deliberately. In fact i got a speeding ticket about 5

So do people driving at regular speed.

The speed ain't really the problem - it's the drivers.
Old, drunk, drugged, stupid, arrogant ... typical ... but
nowdays it's also cell phones, DVDs and general 'multi-
tasking' as well. American drivers are BAD drivers.

It was OK fifty-odd years ago ... big wide-open country
with not all that many cars on the road ... but nowdays
it is a different story. Can't throw a beer bottle out
of the window without hitting someone unless you're
REALLY far out into farm country.

In short, the traffic situation and list of distractions
grew, but Americans driving skills did not.

Nor has the quality of the american educational system, as evidenced
by the moron who initiated this thread.

Want to have problems competing in the world market? Want to have
problems safely operating motor vehicles? Neglect your educational
system, and you'll soon have the results we're enduring.

But "competition" is BAAAAAD ! Male-oriented imperialist

no more speeling, no more rapists mentality towards

Only an idiot would think like that. A bad driver shouldn't be on the
road, period. The reason those 110 (or however many it is these days)
idiots die every day is because they never learned how to drive in the
first place, not because they exceed some number painted on a sign by
a revenue hungry retard.

I'd rather that bad drivers like you would die in a fire; but I'd settle

I've had licences only in Mass, Cal and GB.
GB is the only place where people have to knpw how to
drive before they get the card.
In most US states, you have to know only how to pass
a simple driving test, and a multiple-choice test every
few years therefater.
In GB, you actually know a lot about driving and show
to check a car for needed work.

(And GB is where some Germans go to get their ticket,
so that shows what the German test must be like...)

Has anyone ever pointed out to you that, equally as valid as your
title is the statenemt, "Carpenters are Murderers"?
With a hammer in hand the carpenterer is a potential killer as is the
speeder (taking into account conditions, not an "inkstain that has
dried upon some line") or the drunk driver.
You're silly.

I'm not certain about the multiple choice being a requirement in most
US states. I know it's not a requirement in South Carolina. After the
initial multiple choice exam (which is trivial), the only time you're
required to retake it is if you've got more than a given number of
points against your license at renewal time.

Assuming no reaally bad record, Mass required renewal, but I don't
think they had much of a test if any, except an eye test.

Calif has a five-year, with a Q&A sheet. Most people have or had
access to tests from friends. In GB you're good for life (with a good
record) with the exception of a note rfom your GP annually after
you're 70.

Of course, in GB the drivers test is a good one! Not like any other
I've ever taken.

Tests don't matter much. Most people know how to drive safely. They
don't do it because the penalties for criminal driving are so minor.

By "criminal", I should point out to other readers, you include those
going above the statatory limit, no matter how safe it may be at the

Yes, but never deliberately. In fact i got a speeding ticket about 5

No. Not any law.
He went with the spirit of the law, which was to drive at a safe
speed. Until the roads are lined with a continuious row of speed limit
signs and the sensors needed to judge all conditions at the instant, a
"guesstimate" sign will have to do. Were these signs anything but
guesstimate ones, they would have to change with every raindrop and
driver. It would also make it confusing whan a top driver in an
ultimeate car passed the spot at the same time, as am poorer one and
different lanes would have to show different limits! The present one
should be known as "speed guidelines for the average driver under
average conditions but which may be valueless fifty feet down the
road" signs.

Greater Boston, where the left turns on light have a special method:

` Keep your eye on the light for the cross-drivers.
When it turns amber, start counting the seconds.
1) Turn front wheels so that they are pointing where you want to go
2) depress clutch pedal
3) put car in 1st gear
4) look to each side to make sure there are no light runners coming,
5) pop clutch to beat those coming from the
other directions.

Stop sign guidelines: After the first car goes, all behind him can
follow unless there is something big going the cross direction.

Eye movement: Never get caught looking at another car. To be seen
doing so is admitting that the car exists. (Wrap-around sunglasses are
useful here, even at night.)
Do NOT repair the dents on the front of your car. You may want to
"prime" them over where bare metal is exposed, but why bother - the
rust cannot be stopped.)

Do not tell more than "just a few" people about the bar in "Southie"
where you can get your "Nightcap six-pack" at 4 AM. at the back door
of the bar.

On Huntington Ave (and others that I won't mention) tourists may
follow the "T" tracks down the street and find that the pavement
disappears and they are driving on the ties between the track.

Damn! I wish the weather was better and I'd return in an instant! It's
a fun city.

Hahaha... clearly you know the city. The weather is a bitch, but
those of us born around here seem to be somewhat immune. Hell,
recently a friend and I decided to hike to the top of a mountain. We
clearly had to do it right when we thought of it, and the fact that it
was 10 degrees and snowing didn't come close to stopping us. It was
wicked fun.

It's a wierd thing, I love Boston but hate Massachusetts. NH works, I
can be in the city in a little over an hour but don't have to actually
live in MA.

Boston is my favorite city for six unconnected months of the year. (I
won't comment on the lack of a sales tax in NH - or the lack of a
forehea In 2072d o the Old Man (sniff). In 1972, I left there for the
West Coast equivilant, SANFRAN.
I remember the Happy Holidays at Happy Hampton - and the lobsterskin
effect thereof after Memorial Day.

won't have a snowballs's chance in hell of killing anything

if speed kills, then no one would ever survive the indiannapolis 500

Piss-poor driving kills ... and Americans are, on the whole,
really piss-poor drivers. We view cars as a means to move
our cell phones around ...

Why isn't Speeders and Drunk Drivers ranting about how Britney Spears
keeps getting away with truly dangerous driving?
