Tyres (again) [message #788255] Thu, 20 July 2006 13:26

Hi,

This time I'll post with a little more information:

Bandit 600 (S).

Two new tyres the other day.

Did have Dunlop D207s but now on D208 instead (as they'd none in).

Manual says 120/60 on front, Dunlop reckon 120/70 - which is correct?

Manual says 36/33 psi, Dunlop say 41/36 - which is correct?

TIA

There are 4 options on the Dunlop fitment guide:
http://www.dunloptyres.co.uk/bike/

120/60ZR17 if using D220 or D205
120/70ZR17 if using D207 or D208

Rear remains 160/60ZR17 for all Dxxx

Pressures 36F, 41R for all fitments

Indeed. But why shouldn't I have 120/60 for D207 (which is what I actually
have).

Effective difference?

Why not ask Dunlop - mailto:motorcycle [at] dunloptyres.com?

Because it's easier to ask in here.

What difference to ride/handling will the change in profile mean between
120/60 and 120/70?

I've no idea but I tend to go by the tyre manufacturer's recommendation
rather than a manual printed, in the case of my bike, 7 years ago.

Tyre technology changes; bike makers and tyre makers do extensive testing
and change their mind about the most suitable fitment.

That advice concurs with what my tyre fitter told me when he fitted the
Avons to the Zephyr.
He phoned Avon for confirmation, and wrote it all down on the receipt.
