No it's not, or rather, it's not accurately measuring the air
temperature. From the link in the melting tarmac thread
"The highest UK temperature recorded was 38.5C (101.3F) in Faversham,
Kent, on August 10, 2003. "

That'll be recorded records though. When I were a lad sill in me short
keks me and my mate Nobby Clarke went round to his aunties house in
Wembley[1] one day during the summer hols and when Nobby collapsed from
heat stroke later in the afternoon it was noted that the good old
fashioned mercury thermometer was reading close to but not quite 105 in
the shade.

[1] Normal for us kids it was, hop on a train and go places for the day.
Couldn't do it now could they, poor cunts.

So it's not just kids these days that don't understand how a 'real'
air temperature should be taken?

Probably the same reason mine usually says funny times - holding the
button down too long when setting it & not being arsed to backtrack.

The thermometer in my car said 36C as I left the office, was reading 37
as I skirted past coventry, and was back to a sensible 32.5 by the time
I got home a short while ago.

In summary - "it's a bit 'ot".

It is cooling down now sadly but photo buffs should be out there this
evening coz if the cloud stays how it is it will be cracker of a sunset.

Rather. Question: If I have a car with no sunroof, and no AC, appreciating
that I should be rather hard boiled by the time I finish my journey - would
it make sense to have a basic sunroof fitted in as its about all I can do to
improve air circulation ? I was just thinking that a whole in the roof it
likely to help aid immediate upward dispersal of the heat if nothing else.
If I dont do something soon I will dehydrate before I get home.

Indeed it was, I staggered to the top of Primrose Hill on my run this

That was something I noticed yesterday: no birds (of the feathered kind),
earily quiet.

Try standing on a steel deck (in leather-soled shoes) in full sun at
