Service [message #787878] Wed, 19 July 2006 16:21
Tim Gordon
Hi,

My bike (Hornet 600) has now done 23000 miles - 7,000 more than when I
bought it and that's when it was last serviced.

I'm considering either taking it to the garage and treating it to a probably
much needed service or having a go at doing it myself. I'm thinking of oil
change, new plugs, new air and oil filters.

Anything else I should be thinking about? Would the garage check other
things at service time? (Its just had an MOT)

Tim

Check in your service and maintenance booklet. It should list all the
service items for each interval.

The garage would do everything that's meant to be done according to the
24k mile service schedule[1], & so should you. If you haven't got a
handbook/manual, ring a dealer & ask.

There may also be time-dependent things, such as changing coolant &
brake fluid.

[1] At least they'd charge you for doing everything. How much they'd
actually do is anyone's guess.

All nice and easy on a Hornet.

The brakes will probably be due a clean up and certainly a check.
Ditto for the chain which may need replacing.
The coolant could do with a change.

It's all listed in a Haynes book of wishful thinking
