Not being one for foreign wanderings I can honestly say I have never before
ridden a bike in heat like that today.
I ended up getting on the M1 at about 4:30 and even with my jacket undone[0]
and doing a ton it was still like there was a giant hairdryer in front of
me[1].
I was glad to be once again back up North, although the heat wave has hit
Northumberland as well, to the extent that there was only 3" of snow today!
Anyway, the real point of this post was to thank Adie and Frag for
entertaining me last night. Everybody *has* to go to Frag's house and see
his new telly ... actually, don't bother - you can probably see it from
where you are.
Special thanks to Adie for putting me up last night. I was surprised to
wake up at 5:30 to find her pussy in front of me[2], but she polished my
helmet this morning[3], so I can't complain.
Where were the rest of you Milton Keynes cunts? AFAIR none of you owe me
any money, so I'll have to assume it was personal.
[0] I did consider riding in shorts and a t-shirt, but decided I couldn't
because I was travelling so far. On the journey I did try to work out why
my brain thinks it is more risky to do a ton up the motorway in shorts than
it is to do a ton on local roads in shorts, but I didn't come up with an
answer.
[1] "As opposed to a giant hairdryer under you". Yes, ha ha, very funny

As they say in Gloucestershire - "wahm, in'em".
It was pretty fucking unbelievably hot on the way back from Belgium
yesterday. Some small respite once we got about 30 miles from the
coast, and the same on the Dover side, and then it heated up again.
It was only when it got to gone 10pm that they are started to feel
cool, and it was delicious.

I went out for a ride round this evening while my thermometer was still
showing about 30' and above 80 or 90 it was pleasantly cool , especially on
tree lined country roads.
Every time I slowed for lights or junctions though I started to cook very
rapidly.
I'm sure there is a lesson in there somewhere

It was a tad bloody hot in the South of France the week before last.
Must have been 45 deg C. So hot you had to keep your visor down. Once we
got to the hotel which was at 600 meters all was fine.

I rode across Cyprus once in August. I couldn't wait to chop the hire
bike in for an air-conditioned car.

ditto. Jeans and a T shirt round the ring road made it feel like 20
degrees.

Oddly enough I went out for a 10 minute ride today in just me jeans and
no T shirt. Not cos I was particularly hot as I am quit happy with this
heat but because it was the appropriate thing to do at the time
considering all I was doing was moving the donor bike into the back
garden.

It takes 10 minutes for you to ride to your back garden?
How big's your "estate"?
Alternatively: exactly how slow were you riding?

Rode across the Spanish interior in August once, that was a tad warm.
Stood under a lawn sprinkler till the leathers were saturated. They
were bone dry three hours later.

It was probably coolant from someone's engine that was far
too hot sitting at the lights and started to vent out of a breather
somewhere.
Coolant is very, very slippery stuff, much like diesel, and that's
why it is banned from race bikes so it is kept away from tracks.

Listen mate, if you live in Northumberland the world maps out like this:
Scotland
The North (Northumberland and Newcastle)
The Midlands (Yorkshire)
The South (Derbyshire downwards)
The Equator
London

Indeedy, and on hot days it's a good idea to treat *any* liquid on the
ground as hostile, since water would evaporate in seconds, and anything
else is liable to be slippery.

I rode an FJ1100 round most of Australia (excluding WA) in their
summer. I wore a denim jacket and combats, and my standard technique
in the outback at fuel stops was to completely drench the jacket and
jeans with cold water. One setting off, the evaporation provided a
fantastic cooling effect. Unfortunately, it only really lasted 15
mins, and my clothes were bone dry within 30.

I still remember you drying your shreddies by tying them to the wing
mirror of the gixer and riding about 10 mins back to base, in France.
