Suzuki don't have much in the "big bore roadster" category at the
moment - just the B12. The B12 was a great bike in its day, but that
day was 10 years ago.
I reckon, a non-S version of the SV1000S, with flat bars, maybe twin
headlights, higher level exhausts, could offer a bit of a challenge to
the Monster, Tuono, Speed Triple etc.
Oh well, I don't work for Suzuki's marketing department so what would
I know?

What about the GSX1400?

The only problem I see with that is that the engines on the SV range
are ugly whereas the big lump you get with a Bandit or the GSX1400
looks like a brute. The belly pan helps a little bit but I think Suzuki
would really need to address the cosmetics to loose the "chick wheels"
label.

I'd mentally blocked that abortion. I really don't see the point in a
bike that's a bit like the Bandit, but heavier and slower.

I don't think it looks significantly different to the Ducati engine.

Well, yes, and as I suggested above, I think no fairing, flat bars and
agressive-looking twin headlights would help a lot. Actually, fatter
USD forks would help too.

I was going to say that. I'm surprised that darsy forgot about my sexy

Oy! It's a "chick puller" not "chick wheels"

heh, with you on that even the owners website is an abortion

I know each opinion is subjective but I find those ugly too. Looks like
a mash of plumbing leftovers

The rear would need some help too. If you sweep the cans upwards or put
them under the tail you expose a totally uninspiring swingarm let alone
the lame rear suspension.
Best start with a blank sheet of paper IMO.

I think the engine is one of the best bits, no make that _the_ best bit
of the SV range. Actually the 650 is the nicer lump, for me. At the
weekend I test rode a DL650 and a DL1000, both detuned SV engines.
The 1000 has a lot more vibration, which is to be expected, but for me,
the 650 just runs so sweet, while still offering surprisingly good torque
for a mere 650.

Styling isn't Suzuki's strong point, never has been IMHO. Buy an SV1000S
and sell the fairing, headlight, exhaust cans to some poor unfortunate
crasher and build a streetfightered version to suit your own sense of
how it should look.
I totally agree that Suzuki missed the boat with the SV1000 naked. It was
far too mundane, it needed to be remoulded in the hooligan bike style.

Weell, the Tuono engine isn't really any prettier, but it's well
tucked away so you can't see it.

But isn't that pretty much an SV1000 (non "S"). Granted it's not got the
twin lights, but it's naked with fairly high and flat bars.

Suzuki don't list such a thing on their website.

Shame really. I would have been one of the first in the queue for one.

They must've dropped it then, coz it was a bike on my list of "to try before
I buy" except that I didn't because I got a better deal on the Zed than I
could get with the SVthou.

SV1000 naked was a one-year (2003) wonder.

See the pic I posted to your root post.

I'd buy one. The S models are uncomfortable and the SV650 too puny
(but adequate for my commute).
