Dear learned people,
I am taking the wheels from my CBR900 to National tyre tomorrow for a
tyre change. Will they need the axles and wheel spacers ?

No
If you are going to the branch in Brecon then take some photos of the
wheels before any of the useless cunts are let loose on them. They managed
to put a huge scrape on my rim with the bead breaker.
After some persuasion NT did buy me a new rear wheel which cost them £370.
I got to keep the perfectly useable old one too.

But on the other hand, National Tyres in Carmarthen kicks arse, managing to
fit a BT45 on my CX500 rear that had previously defeated 2 other tyre
fitters in the Ceredigion area.

Do you take the whole bike in and have them fitted or do you take just
the wheels in, out of interest?
How much do they charge for BT45s?

No, they don't. In fact, strip *everything* off your wheels that may
otherwise fall off and get lost. Everything that isn't bolted on -
and you may want to consider removing the discs too.

I just took the wheel in, as it's total piece of piss to take the rear off a
CX500. Fitting and balancing, £9.
> How much do they charge for BT45s?
They never sold me the tyre, a friend up in Brum got it for me. £45 (Well,
£48ish apparently, but he didnt begrudge me the £3 with me having no change
to pay him for it..) for a 110/90-18 rear.
What size(s) do you need? I can ask him for a price, but probably wouldn't
work out very cheap once you've took postage to your part of the world into
account.

Thanks, that's okay though. I was wondering if taking Mr. Bandit into
National would work out cheaper than taking it into a Bike Shoppe to
have the tyres changed.

Bike Shops are rarely cheap sources for tyres.
National Tyres can be very good on price and service. It all depends on the
individual branch as evidenced by earlier posts.
I'd phone around local independents: although most of them will ask for you
to remove the wheels which is not a good idea in your case. Doesn't Prawn
know of one?
It's a shame you do not have a branch of Protyre around as they are
excellent. Nearest is in Hampshire.

I've removed the rear tyre before on the ER-5 and it went back on
okay.
Mind you, the rest of the bike went ping so that's probably not a good
reference.

They're cunts. [Sorry forgot the <Bear mode tags>]
According to their website, the have an "extensive motorcycle stock"
They don't. They only order stuff in as they only "have a few Bridgestones"
This was a couple of weeks back at the Slough branch.

I got my tyres at www.fwr.co.uk Seem to be cheap. Free next day
delivery, no problems for me.
However, couldn't find BT45s when I looked.

Don't fit BT45s, buy Avon AV45 and 46 STs, like everyone else recommends
[1]. I can't make them let go and they last at least 10K miles on my
Bindit.
[1] Except Andy "I expect these hard wearing sports touring tyres to act
like Diablo Corsas" Bonwick.

Quite sticky on the barge. Not so sure footed in the wet though.
Probably about as good as an 020 as far as I can tell over the last 800
miles or so.
