| Mineral Water Tour of Kent and Sussex [message #787119] |

Today SeanH and I went for an extended bimble starting in Rye at about
10am for Big Tart Breakfast, scooted through Camber, Hythe, set off a
few speed cameras, went to Folkestone, had a scream down the Alkham
Valley Road, into Dover finishing in Samphire Hoe Nature Reserve.
What a lovely day. A bit warm, but that's obviously because we
weren't going fast enough in town.
Costs of chilled Mineral Water:
Rye: 80p per 0.5 ltr
Folkestone: 55p per 0.5ltr
Dover: 70p per 0.5ltr
It's a bit of a worry that petrol is far, far cheaper than water.

Okay, I can do better than mineral water.
I've just come back from the vet and have been awarded with a £150
out-of-hours call-out fee[1] for Poppy, our Labrador puppy who is now
five months old.
She came up to me sporting a sock and slipper that she had liberated
from upstairs somewhere and I thought, "That eye's a bit puffy" but
then I noticed that not only was her eye puffy but her entire face had
big swollen blotches all over it. In addition to the generic pretty
golden Labrador 'oh I've never been fed, nobody loves me, I've never
seen people before can I have whatever you're eating as neither food
nor water has ever passed between my floppy lips?' face she now looked
like the loser in a multi-session boxing match, poor little thing. Off
to the vet we went.
The vet suspects that she's been bitten by a snake or stung by an
insect (or consumed something in the garden which has disagreed with
her.) She's had a steroid injection and another injection which I
think was a long-lasting anti-histamine and she's got a selection of
Piriton tablets to munch on over the coming days.
Perhaps it'll be covered by her insurance <walks off to check through
policy>
[1] This doesn't include the consultation fee on top of the call-out
charge, or the medication or any follow up treatment.

She looks absolutely awful. The puffiness doesn't show up well in
that photo, but you'll notice that she's god a deformed nose,
hang-over eyes and huge lips as well as a lumpy head.
Poor little blighter :(

Blimey - who is Poppy insured with? Our dogs follow-up treatment is
most certainly covered.

The £150 was just the call-out fee. The total bill came to just under
£200. The insurance will pay it all (minus £55 excess)

I hadn't realised how good some of the roads are in that area. I've
just spent the last two weeks fucking about at Dungeness B power
station and stopping in Rye so I know the road from Rye to Lydd quite
well.

Both the A259 and the road via Camber are excellent little jaunts to
Rye and back.
