As posted yesterday, I just replaced the motor mount in my
'00 Road Glide, and tightened up the whole motor mount
assembly, which took care of some problems. However things
just didn't look quite right when I put it together.
I was at the dealer again this morning to take a few
demo rides on the new '07 bikes and to return a couple
of stabilizer links that I decided I didn't need to
replace (at $50 each, dayum!) So I took a look at the
motor mounts in the newer bikes, and saw the problem.
I had put the damn thing upside down! Shit!
How did that happen? Well, the new one looks a lot
different than the one I took out, so I couldn't just
put it back in the way it came out. I checked with
the parts guy, and he said that it was the right part,
they just upgraded to a newer style. (The '00 parts
manual shows a B suffix, the new one has a C suffix).
Took care of that little problem tonight - not really
a difficult job, but not as easy as doing it right
the first time. Bike seems a little smoother now.
Moral of the story? Well, if the new part doesn't
look like the old one, make sure you know how it
is supposed to go before you put it together.

And don't trust a PARTS DWEEB to tell you how it goes on. Look at a new
bike or (gasp) read the instructions that come with most Harley parts.

Yep. Parts guy thought the way I had put it on was right.
I went back to the shop and asked a mechanic for the straight
scoop. Of course I didn't do that the first time cause I
didn't realize it was different. The shop manual was no
help either (it actually made it sound like I had done it
right, because it said to make sure the motor mount
bulges out evenly all around. The new one doesn't bulge
out, but it sure does it installed wrong!). And no
instructions packaged with this one, either.
