Cool.

But I entered nothing, didn't point the mouse at any of the numbers, and
it still got it right three times in a row. How the fuck does it
work????

It's a math trick. Every combination of possible answers is
represented by the same symbol. All 2 digit numbers between 10 and 19
will produce 9 as the answer. All 2 digit numbers between 20 and 29
will produce 18, All 2 digit number between 30 and 39 will produce a
27. See a pattern. 9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, 63, 72, 81, 90, 99? All the
symbols for these number are identical so no matter which number you
stare at that symbol will be what is flashed on the screen. Unless you
make a subtraction error.

oops. 99 should not be in there, that's the result for a 3 digit
number (100).

I realize that, but there's more to the trick (the part I missed).

The actual "trick" part is that they change the symbols each time you
play. This makes it seem more impressive than it actually is (i.e., you
don't see the same symbol twice).

yup, they just change the symbols around each time so it looks like its
different

the starting numbers are 23, 46, and 84. you are told to subtract the
addition of the two digits to get the final number, ie:

23 - 5 = 18
46 - 10 = 36
84 - 12 = 72

so, images 18, 36, or 72 will be the three choices you have. if you
review the chart, and look at the images for the three numbers no matter
what you actually see, you will find that the images for 18, 36, and 72
are the same.

it was neat the first couple of times though.

I went through the process a dozen times and it worked everytime, even
when I pre-selected hte number and did the math before ever clicking on
anything. Then, I just picked a number at random to stare at without
doing any math, and it came up wrong (or I did). I never did point the
mouse at any number I was staring at. I'd like to know what the fuck
the trick is too!

Well the fact we looking at it on a glass crt or lcd screen attached
to a box is still pretty magical to me.

It's the nature of nine. The sum of any two digit number subtracted from
that number will always be 9.

Hey, as far as I'm concerned math *is* magic. Just ask Andrzej. I

Try balancing it on the tank of your bike while you write a check?
