Lightest (in the auto indistry, anyway).
Was taught on cars to align the dot with the valve stem.

I had this exact same question come up last week.
I think the answer depends on who you ask. At least
it did for me.
I was planning on using that little mark to line up with
the rim-lock and call it good.
At the slow speeds I ride at. Who'd ever
notice an out-of-balance tire anyway?

BTW 53.5% of the people I asked said it was the lightest.

It is the lightest spot.
With no rim lock, mount the tire with the valve stem corresponding to
the mark (paint circle).
If there is a rim lock, mount the tire with the mark corresponding to
the rim lock.

Why didn't someone post this before Saturday night?
I'm more than a little disappointed.

But I'm already done and in a record 2 hours 45 minutes with no
pinched tubes AND under the gun. I think I'll leave well enough
alone.
