My 86 moves too. I noticed it when changing the clutch cable. I inspected
mine too and found nothing wrong... 226,000 miles and not broken.....199,000
on mine....... The only thing I can think, is maybe take the cable off the
trans, and see if it moves real easy. If its not binding, put some lube in
it. If there's no cracks on the assembly, nothings wrong..

I wonder if this is just a common goofy thing that happens in older
A2's. Anybody else seen this? Anybody rigged a stabilizing system?
