Maybe, but a simple press release doesn't...

It's all about the cars for me. Life is short.....no point in driving *any*
sim with boring cars just because they were paid to give their permission.
And yes, I want the best of the best, so that's F1.

But if the sim is uber-realistic as people claim to want there's no way
on earth that an amateur on the wrong side of 40 can drive a modern
billion $ F1 car using a 19" monitor and controls that retail for $100
(or even $1000 or $10,000), it would be like practicing for a heart
transplant with milton bradley's Operation game. Heck, even Michael
Schumacher has problems making them stop and turn to enter the Monaco
pits...; )

So either you want realism or your want F1, but you can't have both....

None of us could even drive a 145 hp Skip Barber car, or a late model
(whatever that is) looking through a 19 in. hole two feet in front of our
heads with $100 controls.

:-)

That's why sim racing isn't really....

I watched a piece on "5th gear" about some UK gazillonaire who'd just
bought an Ex MS Ferari F1 car (2002 2003 vintage?), he actually owned
(ran?) his on ELMS team, after a 1/2 day briefing he managed to stall
it leaving the pits, after another half day he managed to get to within
1 second of the track record FOR THE FERRARI ROAD CAR ;) And this is
a guy who owned several ferraris and other race cars...

This inspired me to pull my wheel out of the closet and give GPL and
GTP another go. :)

Much of the site is re-hashed, but the new content makes me very happy,
particularly the (vague) details on the tire and aero models.

The track list is orgasmic. I think Road Atlanta might be the only
essential American natural terrain road course not on there.

I can't really agree with you (lots of things I'd rather drive than a
modern F1 car, then again I'd rather fly my F-86 in a sim over an F-15)
but...I'd be highly surprised if iRacing doesn't feature a modern-spec
F1 car of some sort, if not in the initial release. If the sim
features ladder systems for karts, open wheelers, stock cars, and
sports cars, I'd think eventually you'll be given the option to
graduate to the big boys.

Also, I dunno if anyone else noticed, but the animation on the main
page has a rendered Star Mazda which isn't mentioned anywhere else on
the site.

Some interesting comments.

I think Kaemmer shows that he knows the way forward though ie everything
in 1 place. All mods, tracks leagues in 1 place - that is going to be
EXTREMELY attractive to many - rFactor being a perfect example.

Besides, in time (hmmm, I seem to have been saying this for about a
decate - LOL) I'm betting there won't be many types of cars unavailable over
there and an ever growing list of tracks. I wonder how much time?

I agree to an extent, but we're also looking at a company consisting of
people with a tangible track record (regardless of how you feel about
Kaemmer's previous work). A real developer with real financial backing
= an eventual product. I'm not advising to buy into the hype
necessarily, but certainly if you enjoyed GPL and N2003 it's worth
getting a tiny bit excited.

Really? I thought the track list was kind of poor. Very few would I get

I think the track list is kinda short, and there are several non-US
tracks I'd like to drive (Mosport, Mont Tremblant, Nurby, Spa, Suzuka,
etc), but as far as American stuff goes they have most of the essential
road courses for me:

Daytona
Lime Rock
Mid-Ohio
Road America
VIR
Watkins Glen
Willow Springs

Only ones I'd really like US-wise and don't see there are Laguna Seca,
Sears Pt, Road Atlanta, and Sebring. Maybe the various Pocono infield
tracks. Would be nice to have Riverside or historical versions of the
tracks they have the rights to as well.
