Remember to put the sun hood on the lens using the correct
orientation...........

......... otherwise you'll get a nice decorative border on your wide
angle shots :-/

What type of wide angle lense do you have? What's the cost too? I'm on
the hunt, atm, but need to see what's out there...

I'm using a Panasonic Lumix FZ7. It does the equivalent of 36-432mm of
zoom. It also has an adapter tube which allows the fitting of standard
52mm filters (or anything that fits standard 52mm thread size), and also
another (optional) adapter for fitting Macro and wider angle (0.7x)
lenses too.

I got it for about £240.

Nice. The cheapest I've been quoted for my D70S was about $900.

Yeah, not bad, I was looking at the FZ30, but the extra £100 didn't
justify the features it was offering over what I needed - they both have
the same Leica IS lens.

They're £699.99 here (which is where I got my FZ7).:

Hmm, nice site. Bookmarked for future reference.

I may be better off waiting until I go to NY in October, as I still may
save a few quid. Mind you, there's not much in it, lens-price wise. But
flashes are 2/3 the price of what I've found in France.

Just watch getting caught for import tax and VAT, I recently bought a
Phono pre-amp from the US, it started off cheap, but they added VAT at
POS, and then Customs added import duty on it as well. It wasn't so
cheap in the end.

*ding*

It's only worth buying stateside if you include their sales tax. If the
price+sales tax is significantly less than in the UK/EU, then buy it,
stick the receipts in an envelope to home and bin all the boxes (or
mail them home flatpacked). Then carry the lenses/flash/whatever home
in your luggage like it's a normal part of your kit.

If you intend to claim back the tax on leaving US (you'd have to
present the receipts and goods in perfect condition) - you almost
certainly will get pulled for VAT and Duty on arrival into the EU.

Have you guys looked at onestopdigital? Based out of hongKong with some
very keen pricing - and they state whether the item will have
International warranty, or not, so you can be sure you won't fall foul
of manufacturers bad habits - particularly Canon it seems.

That's exactly what I did the last time. And will probably do the next
time. :-)

I'll try not to do this.
