Can anyone identify this ping-fuckit?
http://www.siteline.plus.com/Images/PINGFUCKIT.JPG
(apologies for the blurry shot but it's only a few mm in size)
It came from the general direction of the rear brake caliper
when I was removing the rear wheel and I'm buggered if I can
see where it came from. It's from a '98 9R-C1.
Is it important?

It's the new novel by Stephen R. Donaldson.

It's a springy thing wot sits in the caliper to stop the pads wobbling
around too much. You should be able to figure out where it goes with a
bit of playing.

Yes.

Doesn't ring any bells for me, but I'm mainly used to Suzuki brakes.

It has the feel of an anti-squeal device, but as I said, I don't
know Honda brakes. Or a clip to hold wiring in place. (Around the
caliper?...)

You'll find out the first time you need to do an emergency stop.

It could be. It looks like a shim thingummy that the pads sit on in the
caliper. It is harder than the caliper alloy. Stops the pads chavving the
fuck out the caliper. I had similar on my XJs, lost one and within a few
hundred miles the pads had put one heck of a dink in the pad carrier. See
if it clips on near the leading edge of the pads somewhere.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember Moon Badger

Never mind the blurriness; it's your lost ability to trim pics I'm
concerned about.

I'd go with that. Those hardened inserts do make a helluva differnence
and if they go missing the pads jam on in the worn bit.

Not the only thing you don't know.

Rumbled.
Err, either a) I was in a bit of a hurry or b) Paul Carmichael taught
me
everything I know about photography.
Take your pick.
