Paging diabetics [message #779394] Thu, 13 July 2006 12:08
steve auvache
I have just been round the chemist and bought some of that wart freezer
stuff and I was made to read the instructions first. This contained
dire warnings about it's unsuitability for use by diabetics. Why?

In case of poor blood circulation. The area may not heal as quickly as usual
or not heal completely at all. This can be a *bad thing*.

Nowhere where you would shave, one on each index finger.

Far too plausible. Look lemme give you a little tip eh, when you are
doing a wind up it has got to sound not quite right, just enough to make
it believable. Now fuck off and think up something better.

Ok, ok...

The Dimethyl Ether contained in the wart freeze enturbulates the blood cells
causing them, in a glucose-fuelled rage, to leap out of the body via the
nipples.

At last, a sensible answer. See it wasn't so hard was it? Mind you I

Because one of the side effects of long-term diabetes is loss of
sensitivity in the peripheral nerves (especially feet) due to
micro-damage to the capilliaries.

Which means you gradually lose sensation in your feet - and it's easy
to do lots of damage because you can't feel it happening.

Sort of like leprosy but without the cool scars.

Thats a co-incidence - just come back from docs and after trying Steroidal
cream, then anti fungal cream, my docs has booked be for
a Liquid Nitrogen blast because he thinks the wealds on my knuckles are now
warts. (about the size of a penny on 2 knuckles)
So why didn't he just tell me to go to the chemist and DIY ?

He knows you are a ukrmer and thus utterly irresponsible?

Looking at the instructions the freezer stuff appears to be best used on
young soft growths and I presume what is growing amongst the hair on
your knuckles is neither young nor soft.

It also makes specific reference to warts growing on the top of your
hands or feet and says you should slowly move them around while applying
the applicator. This may have a bearing.

Of course you could always ask him.

90% of MOST stuff isn't "suitable" for diabollocks, no matter what it is.
Anything from wart removal substances to fucking foot spa's.

Most of the dire warnings are simply "cover your arse" for the
manufacturers, but anything to do with blood supply is regarded as a no-no
because higher than normal blood glucose levels slows healing down, making
infections easy to contract. Also, long term diabollocks have a tendency to
lose feeling in various parts, so they don't even know they've got an
infection, at least not until the gangrene takes hold.

Anyway, for wart removal, you really can't beat a pair of Snap-on electrical
side cutters. Sharp as fuck they are.

Nonsense. Stanley knife blade. Pointy bit is good for digging out the
roots.

Don't do it during A-level economics, though, or you'll get the blade
confiscated, and get a week's detention.

I think the DIY freeze stuff is crap. Repeated applications failed to
deal with a fairly new one on my hand, and my (ex-)girlfriend got
through several tins of the stuff unsuccesfully trying to remove one
from a fingertip.

ISTR there being an article in the BMJ about wart treatments fairly
recently, and the most effective was just the salicylic acid glue
stuff. ICBA to look it up, obviously.

Oh, and it's fairly painful to do, best time is when you get back from
