One can barely plan a few days away on the bike around here. The weather
is almost as unpredictable as the Met services.
Last night Mull and Skye were looking good. Galway/Donegal were slightly
less so. This morning it's raining here and over in Ayr and the weather
further up is looking less certain. At the same time Galway is perking
up with sun and low 20's past Sunday.
Thank fuck I didn't bother booking the ferry yesterday. I shall miss
the West of Scotland roads though.
Can't we have giant Mylar solar mirrors in orbit controlling the climate
or summat pleeeese.

Who needs it? It is, as usual, lovely and sunny and warm here in Sunny
Essex.

Sure, but it's only one night. We're in a hotel in Cambrai on Friday
night...which reminds me...
Oi! Platy! What's the address of the hotel you've booked?

heh. This is a different bike. The Bike That Ate (a coil in) Paris
went to Dr Will, then to Sweller, who contrived to make the engine
internals external.
This one is in very good nick, and is mechanically sound. Apart from
the broken speedo cable (new one in post). And the weeping base
gasket. And head gasket. It'll be fine.

How strange and how very quaint, I get mine free from my insurer.

Odd innit, he seems a bright enough chap and all that yet somehow unable
to learn from experience. I suppose it is the battering he has got over
the years from high speed wind turbulence, brain damage or something. A
bit like the creeping deafness when you play in a rock band.

AOL. Since I was left stranded by the thing running on 3 cylinders and
pissing fuel out the bottom 4 days ago, I thought it somewhat wise.
Compounded by the fact that when I rang the mechanics today they said
"oh, we can't find anything wrong with it"

I need to know whether to enjoy the ride to Maroilles, or to stick it

We'll very likely be eating not too long after noon. You probably want to
autoroute it as far as Cambrai.

I might, but I'm not going to be able to check my policy until
toonight (been away, thru work), and didn't want to leave it til the
last minute. If I am covered, I've got a cancellation option on the
euro-cover

Heh. When I actually came to look out the policy it was one of the
biggies that provide the poliicy (NU or Equity Red Star, can't
remember. Again...) tho I actually got it thru MasterQuote.

Just looked at www.masterquote.co.uk, and it seems that breakdown
cover is not included. It also seems that I need to tell them I'm
going abroad. Sheesh.

I know lots of people who email information "to themselves" between
home and work. Don't you do this?

I use my gmail account at both ends, but yes, I use email as a
mechanism to transfer data to and from work - only geeks use USB
devices.

Although using email to transport 1Gb of data files could prove a little
tedious.

So having a bootable USB stick living in my pocket all the time (with a
bootable copy of Puppy Linux on it) is a bit geeky?
Anyway - I don't need to use it to move info - I have a network-network
filtered VPN between my home network and work..

1. That's not official, is it?
2. That'll only take files of 10Mb chunks, IIRC.
