I have a stock 1998 FLH Ultra Classic with 34K miles on it. Just recently
the engine check light has started coming on during normal operation. It
goes out periodically, but for the most part stays on. The oil can
indicator is not lighting. Everything seems to be running fine but
obviously it thinks something is wrong such that it would turn on that
light.
Is there a checklist, or does anyone have any ideas on how or what to check
for this problem?

have the error code read to determine your problem.
could be numerous causes..

Check your battery cables!!! Make sure they are tight. It happened to
me!!! Tighten cables............light goes out!
