Belt drive conversion for 1984 flhtc [message #779002] Thu, 13 July 2006 16:17

Hey,

Searched this forum hi and lo, found nuttin on this subject . . .

Has anyone out there converted a 1984 FLHTC
chain drive to a belt drive? (tranny to wheel)

I heard there was a conversion kit for this.
Was wondering where u got it, price etc . . .

It's time to change the tires on this bike.
It has the "sealed chain", so I thought it
would be a good time to do it.

Thanks

I"ve got an '82 FLT with the sealed chain.
To get rid of it you have to change the inner and outer primary cases,
the clutch, the tranny main shaft, the swing arm, rear wheel, and some
other stuff. OTOH, the sealed chain will last in excess of 50k miles.
Not a very cost effective modification, IMHO.

Thanks for the clear direct answer Old Crow.
Really appreciate the feed back I get in this forum.

The chain has never really been a problem except at tire change time.
Guess I'll be sticking with the chain . . .

Thanks again

After my first tire change is when I developed all the information<g>.
Now I'm just used to it. I usually can get it done in about an hour
and a half, but I've got drag pipes on it and don't have to drop the
exhaust to get the axle out.
The bike had a brand new O-ring chain on it when I bought it. The PO
had planned on just ditching the chain case. I've got 4 years and
about 50-60k on the bike since I bought it and the chain looks as good
as new.
