OK here comes technical
Anybody have access to rubber mounted transmissions ?
I would like to know if there is a difference in OD size of the part where
the pivot bolt goes through the case.
My 99 calls for a 5/8" pivot shaft and the 2006 calls for a 3/4" pivot shaft
..
Question is - did HD just ream out the hole to accept the larger shaft ? or
did they recast later models -01 and up - with more meat on them ?
Shirley a round for those that aint measurin right now , but doubles for em
when they get done measurin.
Appreciate your help

Seems to me that if they re-cast it, there'd be an update of the part
number, no?

Yes but even if they just machined the hole larger it would have a different
part number as well.

If there is a new part number for trans pre 01 from later models.
Fact is the shaft wont fit. 5/8" vs. 3/4"
Ill check with HD about parts #'s on cases, maybe even aftermarket ?
The other difference is a cable drive speedo - pre 2000 and an electronic
speedo, so I cant find out from online catalogues , so far anyway

And that right there is th' brazilion dollah question... is th' old
casting beefy enough to drill it out for th' larger sized swing arm
bolt???

I seriously doubt H-D *knew* they were gonna do this design change a
dozen er so years in advance and beefed it up accordingly. Fuckin'
bean counters wouldn't be goin' for that kinda action.

I don't wanna see m' Brother Danny doin' th' sideways boogie down th'
freeway at 80 mph because that fucker failed due to not bein' able to
withstand th' stress after material was removed to accept th' larger
OD bolt.

If they don't change the part number then which case do you get when you
order that part number? The one with the 5/8" hole or the one with the 3/4"
hole? They need two part numbers to be able to service two different parts
for replacement.
