More on my new '06 Dyna Super Glide [message #778344] Thu, 13 July 2006 05:13

Drinks of your choice... just one on my tab this time,
'cause this is just a short ride report

Since the FXDI does not have a tach, I found a formula
http://www.nightrider.com/biketech/calc_formulas_page.htm
where rpm = (mph x gear ratio x 336) / tire diameter and
I measured the rear tire at 25 inches diameter, to give
70 Mph times
2.96 6th gear
336 times 336
69619 equals
25 divide
2785 Rpm at 70

If the formula is accurate (I have no way to know, but
will presume it works) my TC88 is turning over 2,785 at
70 miles per hour... Grin... so last night I took it on
the slab and varied my speed in 6th gear between 60 to
just over 70 (you're supposed to vary the Rpm's during
the first 500 or so miles!) and also found that it IS
smoother at that speed than my '94 1200 Sportster, as I
had hoped and which was the reason for the Dyna, not a
new XL 1200 Sportster Low model

Started from the dealer with a full tank, so coming up
to my first fill up soon and, while still way to early
to get good numbers, will at least have some MPG idea
at about 30% city and 70% highway... no time this year,
and maybe not in '07 either since we'll be doing a lot
of landscaping, but I sure hear Sturgis calling me!

You'll have to talk to Google about that problem.

No, nevermind, I'll ask them, you'll just sit there and whine.

Whine???? Who the fuck are you anyway????

Are you TigerJohn???

He's the guy I was asking to fix his headers, or are you
just some jerkoff who decided to spew??

I think you're the latter, since TigerJohn was posting from

No, actually I'm just a guy that enjoys riding and reading worthwhile
posts.
Having said that, I'm also a guy that is tired of the wannabe badasses
(like you) that usually have nothing worthwhile to contribute so you
just put others down with whatever you can find to whine about.

I wasn't being (or trying to be) a badass......just
requested (twice) a guy fix his fucking headers. Didn't flex
a keyboard, or accuse him of anything (like whining).

Didn't act like a fucking jerkoff either.......

You like to ride huh??

How many miles did you ride last week??

I only rode about 2100.......

Yeah I am, I'm seeing messages from:

FROM: J <>
signed by TigerJohn, the <> represents where an e-mail

These were posted on Supernews.

Also now seeing messages from:

FROM: HDRocks <nsdk1 [at] hotmail.com>
Not signed, but by someone being a jerkoff........

All I did was ask the OP to fix his headers.

I know that. What I don't know is why chose now to bring this up, since

Ahh, yes, another wonderful post from the welcoming committee. Perhaps
he's been lurking for sometime? Maybe a lot of people do that? Not
sure, but it's possible.

Read back on that extremely long boring, useless thread and at the
end....you will see that there's many people who are in rmh...and have
been for a long time and are still clueless about how some things work
in rmh. They so posted that themselves.

Interesting, it was. They were confused about BS vs. bs #'s and how you
get them. But are the first one's to raise their clue x by 4's
(whatever's) to bop someone on the head.

Also, something interesting in there....first rule, there are no rules.
hmmmm... But before you say anything to me. I'm going to reread them
myself, just to doublecheck. Let's discuss, ok?

I still think he's a woman though...and not the guy he claims to be.
That, first and foremost, should be a main concern.

Oh yes, this is a Harley bar... in cyberspace, so the range
of people walking through the door is both limited (without
a computer, you can't even FIND the door) and just as wide
as the Internet, with people from all over the world making
a visit once in awhile

Like any other bar, there are going to be some conversations
that have a point and lead somewhere... such as the people
who actually try to answer questions... and others that are
pointless in one way or another

One pointless conversation is the un-elected, self-appointed
Net Nanny who will, sooner or later, decide that someone is
posting in the wrong order, or in a format the Net Nanny does
not like, so he or she will jump in with his or her version
of how things "should" be according to the Net Nanny

If you want to see a Net Nanny REALLY get his knickers in a
knot, you just let someone (who, me?) not once but, horror
of horrors, ignore him TWICE and go on posting with headers
that don't match the Net Nanny's idea of correctness

Yeah, there is an Internet "convention" that replies are to
be added to the bottom of a message, since English that we
use here is both from top to bottom and left to right, but
that is just a convention and not everyone is going to do
the same... get over it

Then there are those who decide they don't like the FORM of
a question, and are quick to label someone a troll, or who
do not like the CONTENT of a question (how DARE someone ask
about buying a NEW motorcycle!) and the RUB smear comes out

That's Ok... I don't need to talk about buying old just so
I can get my hands greasy to match their idea of what makes
a "real biker" 'cause I have things I can do well, and the
rest of the universe of experience... and my experience is
not in the area of wrenching on a motorcycle

If someone wants to say I'm a troll or a RUB 'cause I ask
about a new motorcycle, that's up to them... I'm going to
ask questions that are appropriate to MY life, and I will
just continue to mostly ignore answers that mean nothing
in the context of what I've asked (but, as is clear from
this response, I'm also going to respond when I please)

And if someone wants to live in a world where he has to
warn people here about me, or be so self delusional that
he thinks he's "run me off" because he doesn't like what
I have to say... tough luck

I started here in 1994 and only stopped in 1998 due to a
bad shoulder and no more motorcycle... I post when I want
to, about any subject I care to add, and I will continue
to do so with what I choose to put in the header field

If anyone doesn't like that, just skip on over anything
they see with J in the header... 'cause I'm not going to
change anything just because some self-appointed Net
Nanny wants to nag me, or because someone doesn't like
my subject matter or the questions I ask

Like the lady said... this is a Harley Bar, and the walls
are just about as wide as infinity, so enjoy your part
and if you don't like my part of the bar... why, you do
not have to listen (read) or respond to anything I say

Now I'm dry after all that, so I'm going to have a nice
microbrew... anyone who wants, have one on me... and if
you don't want, that's Ok too... like I said, this is a
LARGE place, with room for everyone

If he's been lurking for some time, then he knows that SteveI
contributes a lot of good info and trip reports in here, and that Wakko,
besides doing the same, has more miles on his current bike than you
probably have on any you've ever ridden put together.

He would also know, if he's a lurker, that top posting is really
discouraged here and will result in instant flames.

So he's either a newbie that wants to do things his way, contrary to the
group (which many have tried and failed to do), or he's a lurker that
knows what goes on here and doesn't respect the ways of the newsgroup.

Either way, he's a dumbass that we don't need or want here. (Spunky and
dp, I don't speak for the whole group, but I think there are some who
share the sentiment <sfsf>)

I see your mouth moving but all I hear is blah blah blah....

Fix yer fucking headers......your messages are STILL showing
up with the "From" line blank.

Not MY version of what yer doing....it's just reality.

I'll keep bitching about it as long as you keep doing it.
Soon as you fix it I'll be able to filter your sorry ass and
you'll NEVER have to hear from me again (since I won't
notice you at all).

But if ya want.....just keep doing things yer own way. Post
with empty headers, top post, do a few quick changes with
yer identity........whine about how people just don't treat
ya right.

You'll be standing in an empty room talking to yerself
before ya know it.

I'll go along with that. But only if you throw "Boo" on the dung heap
as well.

Becky, I don't really care if you are real or not. You are going in my
kill file real shortly. That isn't the reason for the post. I don't
usually announce my plonicks. The reason for the post is to make you
aware that the PNWBS doesn't really have a damned thing to do with this
newsgroup. Many of the brudahood don't frequent the VB&G. I'm not clear
on the entire history, but I do believe that the brudahood was created
by a couple of the denizens of the bar, but the charter is outside RMH.

You said you were going to sit back and keep quiet and I suggest you do
just that. You really shouldn't rush in with criticism history lessons
when you still don't have the faintest clue regarding the regulars of
this virtual bar and the history they share. If you stick around and
make IRLs you will slowly be accepted as a regular in the bar. That
doesn't mean you will be liked! There are a couple hundred regulars, if
not more, and I don't know of any group that size where everybody likes
everybody.

Everybody still with me have a tasty beverage of your choice on my tab
while I serve Shirley a little bit different fare.

<break out spoon>
What you still fail to understand is all of the regulars in here know
each other by no more that 1 or 2 degrees of separation. I don't know
Roach personally, but I know a couple dozen people I have ridden and or
partied with that have ridden and or partied with Roach. I don't know
Dana either, but once again know a couple dozen regulars who do.

If you were to ride into your typical biker roadhouse and copped an
attitude telling them they didn't understand the history of their
preferred hangout, but that you on your first visit would gladly educate
them; I would venture to guess you would find your butt on the way out
the door pretty quick and it would be fortunate if it was under your own
power.

If you came in with a tale taller than the redwoods, got called on it
and came back with a new tale I would once again venture to guess that
many of the regulars would respond with suggestions the latest tale
might be as big a crock as the first. You would spend months or years
living down the original falsehood and trying to earn the trust of those
regulars you deceived. If the second tale proved true you would
eventually win over many of those who doubted you. Some you would never
win over. Remember what I said about a group this large and not
everybody liking everybody? That's just the way life works.

Why would you even imagine you could stroll into this little biker bar
and play your games and strut your arrogant understanding of our history
and traditions without suffering similar hostility and disdain?

If you have found something here that appeals to you despite the venom
of the moment and still want to play out your hand the recipe for
success is real simple(I just love all these mixed metaphors). Make
IRLs, not just one, but several. EKIII would probably be a good start.
Any fears your corporeal body would be in any kind of danger is ludicrous.

Your psyche might suffer a pretty severe beating, but being called a
liar and having people tell you what they think is a fairly common
consequence of trying to bullshit your way into a position of
acceptance. If the whole story of trying to smoke out some dickwad is
true and it succeeded you should be happy. You should not be surprised
to find the crowd that accepted you based on your tale now feel you are
a lying, conniving scrap of human detritus. To be honest; I would be
surprised if that weren't the result.

If you want to survive the current debacle; sit back, shut up, IRL,
total honesty.

<spoon returned to dirty dishwater/>

Another round on my tab. I'm tired and cranky after spending 7 hours
waiting to have the dealer fix the crap they missed when they did the
top-end job last week. At least the bike was glued to my ass for the
trip home rather than having to have the wife come pick me up while the
bike stayed behind.

True that. But then again there are some that don't seem to like anyone
else, either.
