Per local news this morning:
At aprox 02:30 this morning a 14 year old Oakland, Ca. teen
died while riding a Honda CRF50 Dirtbike. The teen, a 14
year old black male was riding on Oakland city streets
without lights or a helmet, when he ran a stop light and was
struck and killed by a BMW SUV. It was announced that
charges will not be filed against the driver of the SUV.

Turns out he was 15 and riding a stolen CRF50 supposedly borrowed from
a friend.

Yeah, my neighborhood, WestBerkeley, has at least 10 kids zooming
around on illegal minibikes of varying styles.....kinda like 41 years
ago in my old SunsetDistrict neighborhood.
Certainly zooming around 3 in the morning, I wake up to each pass, as
I'm a light sleeper.
Kids will be kids, and freedom is fun.
I did it as a 16 year old on a legal YDS-3C, racing my buds on their
SuperHawks, CR's, TR-6's, thru the neighborhood after 2AM.
You probably heard me zip by a few early mornings. You were were?
39th and Wawona area?
