my 96 sharan air con/ fan display flashes all digits when first turned on
and the blower doesn't work. i tried the fuse but no good. any other
suggestions or does it mean a trip to the dealers.

You mean for REAL VWs right? My kids and I play slugbug from time to time
and the new ones don't count.
