I'm fairly new to this malarkey, and bidding for a mobile
phone on behalf of #1 son, have won one phone, but there
are still bids on 2 others - I cannot find a way to cancel
the bids - can this be done?
Heeeellllpppp!

Well the eBay help pages might be a good place to start, maybe? Namely this
one: http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/buy/questions/retract-bid.html

It's never a good idea to buy mobiles on ebay.

Any why not - I've sold loads of old phones (and sometimes new unwanted
upgrades) and no buyer of mine has ever had a problem.

Because there's a lot of people out there who aren't as honest as you?
All it takes is one call to get the phone blocked if the seller feels
like making an insurance claim for it.

Why didn't you wait until whether you knew you'd won the first one, before
placing bids on the others? There's no benefit to bidding early on eBay -
and potentially gains to be made before bidding as late as possible

Not to mention that placing and cancelling bids is not the done thing.

Let's get this straight - you bid on /three/ phones (any or all of
which could be bent/stop working at any time 'cos eBay is not a
sensible option), you won one and now you're 'high bidder' on the
other two?
>

You're fucked, unless somebody outbids you. Bid withdrawals are
monitored and effectively count against you in the future. You
shouldn't have made bids on three items at once. Once again, you
astound me with your apparent innocence of the ways of the world.

Well I've bought, over the history of ebay, 2 items, ever, both specific
requirements, both Buy It Nows.

Look, I'm only 52!
I've lead a very sheltered life, I am the youngest of 5 siblings,
I'm used to having things done for me.
OK?
