Motorcycle Music Question [message #519855] Mon, 21 November 2005 02:33

I Have a Dell Dj that I run on my RoadKing. I bought the JM handlebar
speakers, and the MP3 pouch that mounts to the handlebars. My problem
is..that at highway speeds the DJ cuts itself and then restarts a little
while later, at the same place that it stopped.Dell says it is a environment
problem. Im thinking about trying the ipod now, since the Dell seems to
'skip' according to Dell support.
Has anyone else had the same experience as me..and if so what did you do to
solve the annoying problem.
Thanks Glen

I think that player is hard drive based. Get a flash player, it will not
skip like the hard drive based MP3 players. I've got an IPOD Mini that
drives me crazy. It's a quirky little player. I've got a flash based
Wal-mart player that I use while working and have never had a problem with
it. I work for the phone company , climb ladders, crawl in manholes and
never have a problem with it.

Well if you keep it up your annoying problem is gonna get bigger. That
little hard-drive inside your MP3 player, which is turning more RPMs
than your bike, is gonna eventually just quick altogether when its
anti-shock measure(s) fail.

You can either surround the thing in foam rubber, assuming there's
enough room in the pouch (I hope it isn't bouncing around in there),
keep the player in your jacket (fun with wires), or buy a flash-based
player and not have to worry about moving media.

And people wonder why cross-posting can be a bad thing...

First, don't cross post. Ever. Now I'll help you because I'm directly
familiar with your problem. The Dell is essentially a Creative Zen player in
Dell packaging. I own an original Creative Jukebox 1 that has run perfectly
on my bikes for several years (6 gig hard drive player). In June I bought a
Zen Touch (very similar to your player, probably identical inside).
Immediately, it started doing exactly what your player is doing. Identical.
Within 2-3 weeks, it failed altogether irreparably. Within warranty, I got a
replacement unit that I havn't used on the bike for fear of the same
problem. If I try to use this unit on my new bike, I will encase it in dense
foam or otherwise and use the Creative wired remote to control it while
riding.

Good luck and please don't cross-post. I don't want the idiots from other
newsgroup posting here and I'm sure they don't want me there.

I have the 60gb Zen Creative Jukebox and it works brilliantly but that may
be because I have a low tech system that involves my pocket, not my
Sportster!
