I hooked up a code reader to the 2002 explorer with a V6 and it gave me
the above code. Does anyone know what the possible fix would be.
Replacing the sensor? Cleaning the valve? Something else?

Insufficient EGR flow detected. 90% of the time it's a bad DPFE. You can
verify that with a handheld vacuum pump and a DVM, or just take your chance
and replace the sensor. Google the archives of this group for a lot more
information.

Check with your local Ford dealer... there is a customer satsfaction program
that extends the warranty period on the DPFE sensor. IIRC, the program was
02M01 and extended the warrahty period to an additional 2 years or 40,000 km
in Canada... If you are the original owner or purchased the unit from a Ford
dealer, you should have received a customer notification letter...

And if you do buy a DPFE sensor check with Ford first. I just replaced this
on 2 vehicles and the unit from Ford was a newer design and a lot less
expensive (50%) than an aftermarket supplier. Very common problem.
