| Suggestion on how to remove screws [message #504508] |

Hi,
I've got a 2005 Softtail Std FXSTI that I want to install HD's
sideplates to the fender support bracket so that I can install a sissy
bar. Specifically I am installing 53378-03A
There are 4 screws that I have to remove and they are impossible to
get loose. I have tried using a Torx #40.
Can anyone advise if there is a special tool that I need to use to
loosen those screws.
Thank you!

Just how stump stupid do you wish to remain proven as?
First you recently ask how to remove a seat, how to find a battery, and
now this?
We know how readily available your mother was, so why aren't you instead
asking who yer real daddy could be, and asking about DNA tests?

Heat didn't work? PB Blaster? I assume you're using a torx bit on a
socket/ratchet, not trying to do it with a hand-held screwdriver-type torx
or little L-shaped wrench?
If you're adding side-plates, why didn't you put detachables on instead?
Just curious...

You've spent $15K on a bike, but won't spend $60 for the factory
manual. I spent $8.5 on my Sporty and the $100 I spent on service and
parts manuals are the best money I've spent on my bike. (other than
gas & oil change). Getcher a life and buy the books.

Regarding http://lbpp.com/1968XKE/DSC01715.jpg... that door needs some
SERIOUS help!
Lower 1/4 panel also needs a pucker or two taken out.
If you need cool tools, let me know.

Right now, it's the fuel pump. Gotta get that little sucker out. 'Lectric,
juice is there, but no click, click. Tried tap, tap, tap on it too... nada.
I'm sure it'll need a new one rather than a rebuild (which I've done before
on an Austin Healey),,, they don't last. And I'm not critical on keeping it
bone stock... I want a driver.

Try torx 45 they are threaded into the fender - no bolt on the other
end. Use a good torx tool not a cheap one or you will strip the bolt- if
you strip it use vice grips

You have to first loosen the bolts right next to the kick starter.

Located near the battery and the seat strap that some also can't
locate.. south west of the "Disassemble Here" button.

Yes, I will be driving it around... as I did my Austin Healey.
Hard, to extract every bit of fun out of it that I can.
No, I don't need a conversion, 150mph is plenty, thank-you-very-much.
Besides, I live in NJ...now; ya can't go very far, very fast, for any period

i'm looking forward to the mountains of SC/NC/GA/TN.

Michael, thank you for the suggestion on using the vice grips, that
was the ticket for the one screw that would not loosen.
Sissy bar looks great!
Too all you other tools that were no help and only want to bust balls,
keep on flipping those burgers!
