Road Trip Map Software [message #504481] Sat, 05 November 2005 23:50

Anyone have any favorites when it comes to software to plan rides?

I'm hoping for something that will drill down to those small,
barely-maintained county roads that you don't see on Internet maps like
Google or Yahoo.

Anyone have experience with Microsoft Streets and Trips 2006?

I have MS MapPoint 2004, probably similar to Streets,
and I love it. It zooms in to all streets and dirt roads.

--------------
I'm in Texas, Dallas/Fort Worth.

I don't really want to go down unimproved roads. I hit a road last week
that was under reconstruction, prior to being resurfaced. It had been
scraped down to the roadbed. It was a washboard for about 5 miles. I do
want to avoid that. But I want to take the less traveled roads.

The OS is XP Pro. Laptop. No chance of taking the hardware with me. It
will have to be printed.

I'll check out mappoint. It's probably the underlying maping for the MS
product anyway.

Thanks.

Same here. But I've found in some of the rural areas - like the Colorado Rockies
- it won't always tell you when a road becomes dirt. Part of the adventure. You
also have to zoom in fairly close to find the really small roads.
