Hi to all

First of all let me say that I am new to this newsgroup, I have been
following for a while but never had a reason to post until now!!!!!

Finally got the go ahead from the wife to make the move to Harley, took a
few years. However, although this should be good thing, i now find myself
wondering which model, you dont want to make a mistake at that price.

I have narrowed down my choices to the Heritage Classic, Electra Glide
Standard or the new Street Glide.

It Is VERY important that my wife be comfortable or this thing will not fly
very far. My present bike has a small backrest and for sure the new one
would need one. never seen the elctra glides with backrests. We want to do
some good distances so the quality of the ride is important, is a softail
better?? the Standard and Street glide look so much more bad ass

I have afriend who has the2003 anniversary Glide Standard with Samson pipes,
very nice sound however the rigid saddle bags ressonate/shake at around
2500rpm to the point of being unbearable. Is this common with these kind of
bags?

Any positive comments either way that can help me make the right choice
would be appreciated.

P.S. I have driven the Heritage for a day in Vegas and really enjoyed It.

Thanks

The Electraglide Standard can be upgraded for better passenger
accommodations but the Electraglide Classic has the better passenger
stuff already installed. With the Street Glide it will be a parts
festival to upgrade for decent passenger accommodations.

See above.

Not to my knowledge.

Just my two cents.

I have a 90 Heritage which is probably no comparison to the new ones but
I have to believe if you plan on taking trips of say, 300 miles or more
in a day, she will not like the Heritage. They are some of the
prettiest bikes but not the most practical.

I also have a 2004 Electra Glide Std with a detachable back rest and
detachable luggage rack. The wife and I did 500 miles the first day of
our first trip together on the bike and she loved it. I like the fact I
can take the back rest and rack off with a couple of clicks when I ride
solo.

I would have liked the chromed out engine but I can live without it.
The EG handles extremely well to boot. I haven't noticed any shaking on
mine at any rpm other than at idle. The locking bags are more handy
than leather ones and are easier to maintain.

Bottom line, if you are taking 2 or 3 hour trips, either bike will do.
If you want one for the long haul, she will be happier with the Electra
Glide.

I'm a newbie here also but if your looking for comfort for the rider
and a passenger then take a look at the Electra Glide Ultra or Ultra
Classic. Yeah their a few more dollars, but for going long distance
two-up may be worth the extra expense. Mine is an 2003 Ultra Classic,
solid on the road, decent power, nice features. My arms are a little
short and have thought of changing bars. I added an adjustable
backrest, boom mikes and speakers to the helmets. Floorboards for the
passenger are adjustable. My only complaint is this bike is fairly
heavy. The 06 has Bluetooth capability but don't know if that will
translate to wireless intercom, but would be nice. Also available on
the 06 is Satellite radio, navigation system, and some other nice
electronic features. Best bet is to visit your dealer and learn about
each bike your interested in before making your buying decision. Your
budget will say something about the whole deal also.

It doesn't. The Bluetooth interface also mounts in the Tour-Pak, so
won't work with a stock EG Standard (though I would imagine if you were
creative enough, you could mount it in a saddle-bag).

As "key" says rent them first. I did this with the duce standard and
road king. a freind was kind enough to let us try his heritage. the
road king beat hands down. we went for a ride from fairafax, va to
elkton, wv a 750 mile round trip. we got a very good idea how each
bike handeld. for me it was a tossup between them all. for her it was
the road king or none. I put a corbin seat and a detachable tour pack
on it. we have gone on extended vacations with no problems (read that
as no complaints from the back) we have spent as much a 16 day road
trip on it and never heard a vibration/rattle from the bags.

Hmm, all up to the wife huh. You might be looking at all the wrong
models then. Best advice is to rent each with her aboard for a good
decent ride. Add into your consideration the EG Classic and my bet
will be that she goes for it.
