| 2005 or 2006 Dyna Super Glide [message #488043] |

I am planning on purchasing a FXDI Dyna Super Glide in the next couple
months. I have one question which would help in deciding between choosing a
2004/2005 model or breakdown and buying a new 2006 model.
What is the difference in the handling and emissions (i.e., State of Texas)
between the 2005 and 2006 FXDI model years?
Thanks

I'm gonna take a semi-educated guess here and say that there's very little
difference other than the color choices, perhaps some minor changes, and the
price.
Just for shits and grins you could go to the H-D website and do a comparison
between the bikes. I think it will let you compare between the '05 and '06
models. If you find that the specs are identical than it's a safe bet that
nothing much has changed.
FWIW, there shouldn't be any concerns with the emissions on a stock bike.
If a new bike doesn't pass any tests than it should be covered under the
warranty.

With the change from EVO to TC88 notwithstanding, if ever there was a recent
year when it made more sense to buy the newer than the older, it is this year.
You get the 6-speed transmission and the new chain tensioner.
New, heavy-duty fork tubes and triple trees.
Didn't they strengthen up the Dyna frame this year, as well? A heavier swingarm?
Did they put the 1" axles on the '05's?
Motorcycle Consumer News reports that the cam drive and bearings within the
engine are further updated this year. For a publication that is usually
"Harley-neutral", at best, they were very impressed by the '06 Dyna Wide Glide
they just reviewed in their latest issue.

There is a *huge* difference between the '05 and '06 Dyna's. Totally
redesigned frame, front forks, rear swingarm, engine & transmission, ESPFI,
etc.
If I were in the market for a FXD, I'd have *no* problem picking a 2006 over
a earlier model.
Oh, and the price is damn near the same between a '05 and '06.

I have a little input were i just bought a new 2006 Streetbob FXDBI.
The frame is heaver, the front forks are heaver also swing arm as you
guys stated. 2 small problems that i have found with mine.
To add forward controls to the bike, you have to take off the inner and
outer primary
covers. ( Not a good design ) The floating front rotor has some issues, You
hear
snapping or clicking when using the front brake also if you go over a bumpy
road you hear it.
You feel it in the handle bars. I have had the bike back to Harley 4 times
and they showed
me the same noise in 2 other 2006 bikes right off the show room floor.
My other bikes do not have floating rotors so i don't know if this happens
on other models
with floating rotors.
My 2004 Road King and 2002 FXDWG does not have floating rotors.
All in all though, it is fast and with the 1st step-up it's quick, I like
it.
The 180mm tire is a nice touch also.
If anyone has heard the clicking noise with floating front rotors i would
like to hear
from you.
