On Thursday while traveling from Pensacola home to St. Louis the input shaft
on the tranny sheered off. We were on I65 just North of I10 in Mobile. A
1%er stopped to help; I asked him if he knew a good wrench local who'd work
on my old shovel. He made a couple calls on his cell. He said "This is the
only guy I trust, he'll come get you and treat you right."
Well that was an understatement! Kent Stocker from Retro Cycle Works was
there (12:30) in no time. He hauled us to the shop, His "transmission guy"
Buck, had the jack table cleared and waiting for us. It was a Jim's 6 in a
4 speed, Buck said, "I guess we'll learn together."
We had it out and opened up by 3:30. All it needed was the Mainshaft. Kent
called Jim's, explained our situation and had it sent Red Label, then he
hauled us and our gear to a motel.
At 11:30 Friday I called the shop and timidly asked, "Did it show up?"
"Yep, and Buck has it about ready to close up. Get down here and help him
get it back in the frame."
We had it running by 3:30 and hit the road at 4:00.
These guy's saved our trip and didn't wreck my credit card ta'boot.

Mobile is lucky to have such a truly good shop.
Thanks Kent & Buck

Nice to know there are still some folks out there that do things the old
school way. Good for them, and good for you for letting us know about it.
