| Question Re Dynojet Power Commander [message #475599] |

Can anyone tell me about the number designations on Dynojet's Power
Commanders?http://www.powercommander.com/buynowbike.shtml
I was assuming that all PCs were the same, only that different ones came
pre-programmed for different bikes, but otherwise they are one-size-fits-all
and could be re-programmed.
I made an arrangement to buy one from somebody that they said was for a
different bike, but now wonder if I haven't made a deal for the wrong thing.
My bike's in the shop (600 mile service) so I can't check it out for a few
days.
The number they give for my VN1500 is 203-411. How much difference is there
between that and a 202-411, for instance?
Someone please tell me (truthfully) that the only difference is the
pre-programming.
TIA
Richard

Well, it looks like the difference is the map to me, but presumably the
ones who can tell you for certain are the folks at Dynojet. Have you
sent them an inquiry?

I thought of asking them, but wasn't sure if they'd give an answer since I'm
not going to buy it from them. I sent them a request for info asking whether
a unit could be moved from one bike to another when buying a new bike. I'll
post back with the answer, if I get one. But if anyone already knows, I'd
appreciate the info.

Let me clarify my remarks: I've heard of people moving Power
Commanders(PC) between different bikes, and also swapping maps out on
the same bike (not nearly so much point in using the thing if you can't
customize the map, really). I'm not familiar enough with these things
(I've got carbies on my VFR) to know the procedures, etc. It's
complicated because the procedures/capabilities of different models of
the PC (e.g. I vs II vs III vs III USB) are radically different. fwiw

Reply from Dynojet:
"In most cases the units are different but with the two bikes that you
mentioned you could use 1 unit for both bikes. Make sure to download the
corresponding map for whatever setup you are currently using and you should
be fine. If you have any other questions please let us know. Thanks."

Result. Good luck with it.

I also asked whether my buddy could use it on his HD Dyna Street Bob to see
if he likes it before buying. They said that is an entirely different device
and different hookups.
