97 SL2
The upper mount looks like it had been replaced but I can't really
tell. I read that if you can get a finger in it, it needs to be
replaced but that is confusing. The center is tight and I can hardly
get the tip of my finger in but the sides(off center) I CAN get my
finger in. Does this mean it is bad or maybe installed improperly if
that is possible??

Sounds good to me. Pop the hood and have someone hold the brake while in
gear and throttle up and down "smoothly" while you watch the engine. Try
to gage the amount of movement or bucking the engine does.
ps: dont get run over

well I replaced the monut and MOST of the buzz is now gone. The old
mount had a split the width of the mount all along the bottom.
