| Kawasaki Voyager Balancer Gear Backlash Adjustment Help needed [message #470728] |

I'm the proud new owner of a 1995 Kawasaki Voyager. I read in a tech
section about an engine 'whining' sound that may be the balancer gear
backlash. I read the instructions on how to adjust it but one thing is
confusing. The instructions reference a punch mark on the face of the
front and rear shafts. Believe me, the two shafts on my bike do not
have any marks or dimples in them.
When I loosened the shaft bracket bolts and started the engine, the two
shafts started spinning. Now I don't know where the original position
of the shafts is and of course I didn't mark them (darn). I have
adjusted them at idle per directions - clockwise until it makes noise
then back off slightly, same with the rear shaft, and it sounds good.
Do I need to worry about not having the spots or dimples in the right
position even if there aren't any? I sure hope not.
Thanks,
BD
