It's easy to spend bunches of money on code readers and other diagnostic
tools but you can get the job done for much less:

An obviously excellent product, but a bit expensive for us amateurs.
Usually I just take a random page from my Enthusiast or Mazda manuals; a bit
less problem-specific, but it is completely free.
If they sold these analyzers for less than $10, including S&H, I would be the
first in line.
