i was driving my SL2 to school and i stopped at light. when i tried to
pull in it seemed that i couldnt get any response from the shifter.
when i engaged the clutch to move foreward it whinnied like i was
trying to start in 4th gear what. no matter what i do to the shift
lever it wont change gear or come out of fourth! what can i do, do i
have to replace the whole transaxle!?!?

There is a small metal clip that connects the shift cables to the
transmission. I believe that the cables are also held onto the shifter in
your center console with similar clips. Also, sometimes those cables can
break (not as likely, but a possibility). You may want to check these items
before thinking you need a new transmission.
It is a possibility that the clutch slave cylinder went out, but it is less
likely than those clips.
