Does anyone know of a newsgroup or website that I can monitor to learn such
things as which model would be best for my interests, pros/cons of each, etc?
Thanks.

Noop. None exist.
Just do what we did, and buy one of each.
Then sell the ones you don't like at highly exaggerated prices on E-Bay.

But you obviosly were serious, which makes me laugh so much harder,
regarding why -you- didn't mention what kinda "interests" you have in
regards to....anything!

You can get a lot of people to tell you what they like but it's what you like
that matters. Go and test ride some bikes. A lot of dealers will let you ride a
bike if you show them you have the ability to buy and that you have a motorcycle
license. If you look to scuzzy for them to let you ride then rent. Don't expect
much from the groups because opinions are like assholes and there's a lot of them
around (opinions).

Golly, Gilligan!
I wonder why he and others hadn't thought of that first!

Well think of it like a woman, I know what I like in em <me>, but that
might not be the same for you. So all in all only you can answer that
question.

Now if you post what you are looking to do with it (hopefully ride,
but what type) your physical characteristics and so forth perhaps one
or two people can give you some ideas. I.E. are you a go-fast hell
for leather guy or a laid back long distance meandering along kind of
a guy? Bar-hopper or street-light to street light racer. Or god
forbid a butt jewelry poser that needs to prove they have more cash
then sense? Get the picture?
