has anyone installed the oil pressure /air temp kit on a
2003 FLHTPI,
the instructions indicate that the FLHT harness already has the end
connectors under the fairing, it seems the FLHTPI doesnt, Im guessing
that I will have to create my own, however Im concerned with the sending
unit connection to the by the ECM, any help is greatly appreciated

Buy a *Factory* repair manual for *your* bike. It will have all of the
wiring harness diagrams to do a job like this. A newsgroup isn't the place
to get this info afaiac.

I also have a '03 FLHTPI and have installed the aforementioned gauges on
mine.
As you've noticed the harness connnections required under the fairing do not
exist
and will have to be built. The good news is that the oil pressure sender
wire that runs
from the ECM to the fairing (main harness under the gas tank) is already in
the harness.
The bad news is that the companion wire in the fairing harness is not there
and will have to
be added.
The wire for the oil pressure sender included with the kit is a no brainer
and can be installed
fairly quickly. As I recall the instructions recommend a crows foot wrench
for the sender but
you can tighten it with an open end wrench. It just takes some patience.
The temp gauge and sender are pretty straight forward. The sender lives
under the fairing and
again you'll have to fab a wiring harness and provide 12VDC to the gauge.
The connections on
the sender and small and require a pretty small sta-conn.
Oh, by the way, the temp gauge is inaccurate. You will be disappointed..
Trust me..
As mentioned in another reply, you really need a shop manual. The best $50
you'll ever spend.
While the shop manual doesn't accurately address wiring harnesses on the
Police FLHT, it's
still a good investment.
Good Luck and Ride Safe..

The temp gauge is inaccurate? The sensor is in the fairing. It's accurate if
you want to know the temperature in the fairing. It takes about 1/2 hour to
relocate it to just under the left side handlebar then it's all of the sudden
accurate as hell.
Your Welcome,
Roger

Hey Roger,
Where exactly did you mount yours, under the left side handlebar? Is it
obvious?

Yeah that's it. I hit it with a little semi gloss black to make it less
conspicuous. You gotta extend the wires a bit too. Under the bars it's not too
damn bad as far as accuracy goes. I don't know how water resistant it is because
I haven't been caught in the rain rain with it there yet. I get a chance I'll
take a shot of it and put in on the picture group.

Want to thank everyone for there help !
picked up the clymer manual with the wiring diagram and some hardware at
the autoparts store and now I can tell what my oil pressure is and what
the temperature inside my fairing is, now if I can only find that bottom
screw from my fairing that I dropped everything would be perfect.
Thanks much

I agree 100%, clymer pretty much lacks alot of necessary info, but it
had the schematic I needed. Can the factory book be gotten at the dealer
or do I have to go somewhere else?

They always seems to wedge themselves behind the fork cover under the
headlight between the lower triple clamp and the tube. Can't see 'em, can't
get to 'em. Buy a half dozen and quit looking for 'em when you drop 'em. A
sure recipe for finding 'em is if you don't need 'em.

That explains why I never heard it hit the floor, thought I was losing

I like that idea. It's sure better than spending 15 minutes trying to
reach behind all that crap, finally grab the screw, only to have it drop
even further into the abyss. Add to the fact that a magnet sticks
instantly to everything but the damn screw and you (might) start
throwing things.
Maybe I'll just buy more screws. I'll have to manage to keep it from the
wife. Oh those screws... I'm pretty sure I have dozen or so lying
around. I just can't bring myself to use one, knowing that "other" one
is still hanging around--waiting to make its entrance who-knows-when
(prolly just would vibrate out and be gone--never to be heard from
again).
