Got one of the better stock Harley seats, but it still feels hard after
an hour or so. Do they get much better with use, or is a Mustang,
Saddleman or some other after market the way to go?

I've been riding a few years (53 to be exact) and it's my experience
that a firmer seat is more comfortable for the long haul. Just my .02
cents.

It feels hard because the foam padding in the seat has compressed to the
seat base. Do yourself a favor and toss it. Get a Mustang they're firm but
not hard. I've got one on my Ultra I've had for five years and it's still
the best seat I've ever had.

While I haven't yet bought a Mustang to replace the stock H-D seat on my
Standard, I do have to tell ya that after a riding out a full gas tank,
it sure does feel nice to sit on a nice, cold, Concrete pic-nic bench! :)

Both are good seats...can't go wrong with either one. I've had both. If
I had to buy another seat...Saddleman!

I've got a Russell Day long touring saddle on my 01 flht. Best
motorcylcle seat I have ever owned. I can truly ride all day long with
no problems.

I installed a Saddleman Road Sofa just before heading to Sturgis this year.
Had no problem staying on the bike between almost 200 mile fuel stops. What
I like about the Saddleman is how the lower back of the seat is separated
from the bottom. The intent it to eliminate the hot spot. It must work
because I had no difficulties at all. They also use gel in the seat. I had
to do something because the 3 HD seats that I had wreaked havoc on my back
which has two lower back operations in the last 4 years.
