Bit of VR6 Help Needed [message #784929] Mon, 17 July 2006 19:33

Ive had a corrado VR6 sat in the garage a while and Im finally getting
around to having a look at it.

First of all it seems to have sprung a coolant leak and Im damned if I
can find exactly where it is coming from. It is a major leak in that
water pours out (yeah I know you use coolant) but I just cant isolate
the origin. My best guess at this point is that it is weeping from the
oil cooler, is this possible? because if not I am totally stumped.
Everywhere above the oil cooler (Im assuming the thing near the engine
mount with the big nut for tightening is the oil cooler) is dry and the
water drips down from here.

Second, I think the engine mount has given up since it has been sat. I
came to start it up and it made a horrible knocking noise when I
cranked it. Jacking the block up a little using a piece of wood on the
oil pan and a floor jack solves this problem. I have checked the bottom
and top bolts and both appear fine although the bottom one, the 8mm
allen bolt sits offset and partially obscured by hte housing when the
engine is unsupported. Im assuming the mount has just degraded but am I
unsure exactly what this mount consists of, is it all accessible from
underneath, because the top part looks like itll be the devils work to
get to.

Thanks in advance for any insights youre able to give. It is a 1993
model if that makes a difference.
