Good idea. Ireland would be handy too.

I was under the impression that people come from Ireland to the UK
because bikes are cheaper here?

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember "'Hog" <invalid [at] ukrm.net> saying
something like:

I'm not so sure about the bike market here, but plenty of UK car buyers
buy new from Irish showrooms and immediately export the cars to the UK.
I presume this is because Irish dealers have to offer a better base
price before the Vehicle Registration Tax kicks in, in order to make the
cars just a little bit more competitive/affordable to buyers here.

UK buyers can take advantage of this, since the car is not going on an
Irish road.

Much the same might apply to bikes, but I dunno for sure.

Fair enough, but that's new cars, right?

Could you find out?

The only reason that I mentioned the exports going the other direction
is that a couple of guys from the Republic who bought my CB750
suggested that buying anything remotely classic is (a) very expensive
in Ireland and (b) there isn't much choice.

I'll give it a go.

That's true enough. There aren't all that many big bikes on the road
here and the prices are generally ott.
